The highlights for 2007 the Big Year, will be Ghana’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations (50years of Independence from the British), which is coinciding with 200 years of abolishing of Transatlantic Slave Trade.
As such, as part of the Year long celebration, there will also be the Pan African Festival (PANAFEST), the Celebration of Emancipation, the Celebration of Black History Month etc.

During these programs we will have our Traditional Chiefs at a Durbar, sitting in State to welcoming home, all people of African Descent from the Diaspora.
We will also have as part of the Emancipation celebrations a Night vigil at the Slave Castles, preceded by a candle light match through the town. At the Castles a solemn ceremony will be held with an enactment of the atrocities of the Slave Trade Era. Names of ancestors will then be mentioned in reverence to pay respect to these heros.

Other ceremonies will be held at the Slave River in Assin Manso, were slaves are said to have taken their last baths. Close to the Slave River is the Garden of Commemoration, where the remains of two people of African Descent returned from the Caribbean and the US have been buried. Also available are Slabs on which all people of African Descent can etch their names, and say they have connected with the Motherland.
